Is the prototype production-ready?
Generally, no, it's built to answer a specific question about feasibility, not to handle production traffic, edge cases and security review. If it validates the idea, that's a separate, more thorough build.
What if the prototype shows the idea doesn't work well?
That's a genuinely useful outcome, not a failure. Finding out an approach doesn't perform well enough after a small prototype is far cheaper than finding out after a full build and launch.
Do we own the prototype and its code?
Yes, same as any other project. Whether you take it to a full build with us or hand it to another team, the code and what you learned from it are yours.
